There are some new additions and bug fixes with RadarLab HD in Version 1.0 Revision 16. All the changes in this release can be found in here.
1. The 'Backgrounds' layer tab has been changed to 'Maps'.
2. The 'Radar' layers tab now contains a lot more products than just Base Reflectivity. RadarLab HD now contains most of the Level-III radar products that are available in the original RadarLab. The RadarLab HD Base Reflectivity layer is the Level-II data and all other Radar layers are Level-III data products.
3. A Lightning Settings tab has been added to the Settings page. This allows the user to display lightning strikes that are within set time ranges. You can use this to show only the newest lightning strikes or the oldest or any combination you want.
4. A print button has been added to the Help page so you can print the help section. I'm working on updating the help files to make them current. These should be finished by the end of the week.
5. A bug fix for the Watches, Warnings and Advisories layers is also included with this release. This corrects the tool-tipping of the defined polygons when zooming has occurred.

Where can I read about the new radar layers and what information each provides and how they should be used?

Larry,
Here is a link from NOAA that gives a brief explanation of each radar product and how it is used. You can find more detailed information by looking at the Radar Meteorology Guide from the University of Illinois.

I really like the fact you added the different radar products. Will we be able to either have different color tables to choose from or be able to make our own? Also it would be nice to have the ability to change the color and font sizes of cities/countys.

Right now we have three different color tables for the reflectivity products and two different ones for the other products. We might add the capability to have a user defined color scale in the future. I'll look into the possibility of being able to change the fonts/colors for the city and county names.

Great additions to the radar suite! I have one request, however... Is there a way you can add a function to save a radar loop, rather than individual images? Thanks!

As of right now, we do not have any plans to add Spotter Network support to RadarLab HD. What exactly do you mean by dynamic placefiles?

We do not have an easy way to save an animated radar image. I'll look into this some more but I don't think we will be able to offer this as an option.

I see on the weather tap studio there is a winter mosaic. What happens on the RadarLab HD version duing winter? Compared with our local forecast radar they are already showing some snow and ice yet looking at radarlab I see nothing but green or showers. Is there a way to put this into winter mode?

Larry,
Right now there is no "winter" mode in RadarLab HD. In WeatherTAP Studio, there is a Winter Mosaic, the key word being "Mosaic". If you pull up a local radar site in Studio, there is no winter version of this radar. RadarLab HD shows only local radar data, not Mosaics. The only Mosaic that is shown is when you click the change sites button. Maybe we will be able to add a winter version in the future, but I just don't know. Right now we do not have a "Winter" local radar product.

Hello...
Will Weathetap HD development team be working on adding a path cast when a user is tracking a thunderstorm cell ? Thanks for your response and thanks for making Weathertap the BEST site for radar products on the net.

At this moment in time we do not have any plans to add a path casting feature to RadarLab HD.

Not sure when the next update will be. At the moment we are just making some minor changes, nothing major.

With no rain going on in the SE, I am eager to se HD in action!
The addition of more local roads at higher zoom factors (county scale) would be a nice addition especially when using the GPS connection. Keep up the good work!

*Excellent* product! In fact, all of your products are but the RadarLab HD is especially useful for those of us who are active in SKYWARN and emergency ops here in the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area. I'll be making use of your fine programs and consider them to be some of our most important tools (beside our "ground truth" people reporting in live from various locations in the city and county.) Thanks for continually bringing and updating such great products to help us work harder to keep our city and county as safe as we can!
